CSTEP’s Rooftop Solar Explorer tool goes live for Madhya Pradesh
Three years after pioneering the innovative use of LiDAR (light detection and ranging) technique to ascertain a city’s (Bengaluru’s) rooftop potential accurately, CSTEP concluded a similar exercise in Madhya Pradesh. In March, we launched the Rooftop Solar (RTS) Explorer for Madhya Pradesh. The tool provides high-resolution 3-D maps of rooftops in five cities of Madhya Pradesh — Indore, Sanchi, Bhopal, Gwalior, and Jabalpur.
RTS can be used by decision-makers and consumers alike to identify the best areas of a roof for installing a rooftop solar system and guides them on the technology and financial implications of installing RTPV.
The information generated by the tool can also be used by distribution companies, developers, and financiers to visualise possibilities and design appropriate strategies for installing rooftop solar.
The tool was launched by Shri Sanjay Dubey, Principal Secretary (Energy Department), Government of Madhya Pradesh at an event in Bhopal.
